How to Convert Percentage to GPA
To convert a percentage to a GPA on the 4.0 scale, your percentage is first matched to a letter grade, and that letter has a fixed grade point value. For example, an 85 percent is a B, and a B is worth 3.0 on the 4.0 scale. This calculator does that conversion both ways: percentage to GPA, or GPA back to a percentage range.

Frequently Asked Questions
An 85 percent is a B, which equals a 3.0 GPA on the standard 4.0 scale. Percentages from 83 to 86 all convert to a B and a 3.0 grade point value.
A 90 percent is an A minus, which equals a 3.7 GPA. The A minus band runs from 90 to 92 percent. Reaching 93 percent would move you up to a full A and a 4.0.
The scale shown here is the most common US standard, but some schools use slightly different percentage bands or an unrounded scale. Always check your school’s official grading policy for the exact conversion they use. This calculator gives the widely accepted standard.
Use the GPA to Percentage toggle at the top of this calculator. Because a GPA value maps to a range of percentages rather than a single number, the result is shown as a percentage range. For example, a 3.0 GPA corresponds to roughly 83 to 86 percent.
Each GPA value covers a band of percentages. A B and its 3.0 value represent any score from 83 to 86 percent. So converting from GPA back to percentage gives a range rather than one exact number, since the original percentage information is grouped into letter grades.
